According to a new poll released Tuesday by Quinnipiac University, President Joe Biden has a one point lead over both former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in hypothetical head-to-head matchups. Biden leads Trump in a general election matchup for president by 4 points, 49 – 45% among all registered voters.
Trump widened his lead over DeSantis to 14 points in the poll, gaining the support of 46 percent of registered Republican voters to DeSantis’ 32 percent.[0] Former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley had 4 percent support, while former Vice President Mike Pence recorded 7 percent.[1]
On Monday, President Trump told reporters that he “maybe” had regret about having endorsed Governor DeSantis in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial election, as the competition between the two appears to be growing. These figures come as a result.[1] Trump also used a speech in Davenport to take several potshots at DeSantis, accusing him of wanting to “decimate” Social Security and comparing him to Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), the GOP’s 2012 presidential nominee.[2] Pence has also been among the more outspoken Republicans about Trump, a surprising move given his unflinching loyalty for four years during the Trump administration.[2]
Trump received 48% support among individuals ages 18 to 45, while DeSantis received only 30%.[3] DeSantis, however, leads Trump among voters 40 and over, 40% to 35%.[3]
The former president also expressed his opinion on super PACs, saying donors should focus on the ground game instead of doing big ad campaigns for candidates. He said most of the ads aren’t very good, the donor gets poor while the consultant gets rich and the candidate is not helped.[4]
