Ron DeSantis: From Log Cabin to Governor of Florida

On March 18th, 2023, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education law, known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, into law.[0] This bill prohibits public school teachers from mentioning sexual orientation or gender identity from kindergarten to third grade, and the state is considering expanding this restriction to the 8th grade.[1]

This has led to numerous books and graphic novels being removed from school libraries, such as Gender Queer: A Graphic Memoir by Maia Kobabe.[2] DeSantis’ press secretary Christina Pushaw has even gone so far as to say that anyone who opposes the law is a pedophile.[3]

DeSantis is also known for his other actions such as his proposal to repeal the 22nd Amendment. He has also called for the disciplining of various people, such as drag queens, trans individuals, scientists, woke college professors, librarians, Ivy League lawyers, climate doomsayers, vaccine promoters, hydroxychloroquine-haters, 1619-lovers, Founding Father-dissers and Democrats.

In addition to his political life, DeSantis has an interesting personal story. Born in Duval County in a log cabin that he helped to build, he soon moved to Dunedin where he discovered baseball. He is very good at the sport and even went into the Navy instead of pursuing a baseball career. As a JAG lawyer, he performed critical work at Guantánamo, including foiling a terrorist plan by pouring Ensure down their gullets.[4] He then got married at Disney after taking his soon-to-be wife to Beef O’Brady’s.

It is clear that Ron DeSantis has had an interesting life, and he is likely to continue to make waves in the political world with his actions.
