Casey DeSantis, the First Lady of Florida, has been making headlines recently as her husband, Governor Ron DeSantis, prepares to announce his run for the Republican Party nomination for president.[0] While some see her as her husband’s “secret weapon,” others view her as a hindrance to his White House ambitions.[1] Regardless, it is clear that Casey DeSantis is a force to be reckoned with in politics.
Casey DeSantis has worked in the television industry for many years, serving as a news anchor and reporter in Florida. She has also worked for CNN and hosted the Golf Channel programs “On The Tee” and “PGA Tour Today.”[2] In October 2021, it was announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, but she confirmed in March 2022 that treatment had been successful and that she was now cancer-free.[2] Since then, she has dedicated herself to raising awareness of the disease and launching cancer-related initiatives throughout the state.[3]
The couple has three children together – Madison, Mason, and Mamie – and are said to be so in sync politically that they have become almost a “singular identity.”[4] Some people in their orbit even refer to them collectively as “The DeSanti.” However, according to a recent Politico article, Casey DeSantis is both her husband’s greatest asset and his greatest liability, with the emphasis on the latter.[5] She is said to have a lot of sway over his political decisions and tends to alienate him from his staff.[6]
Despite this, Casey DeSantis is expected to play a lead role in her husband’s impending campaign for the White House. While some have criticized Casey DeSantis, including conservative commentator Laura Loomer, who has questioned her cancer diagnosis, others have praised her for her fashion choices and initiatives. In February 2019, Casey established the First Lady’s Medal for Courage, Commitment, and Service and announced Florida’s 2019 Black History Month theme as “Celebrating Public Service,” where she and her husband honored the winners of Florida’s Black History Month student contests.[7]
Regardless of the opinions of others, Casey DeSantis is expected to be a crucial fixture in her husband’s campaign, tasked with captivating the public and shaping perceptions of the campaign. As Ron DeSantis enters the presidential contest, all eyes will be on his wife, Casey DeSantis, and her role in his campaign for the White House.
